What we're covering and what your child will be tested on

Unit 2 Week 1

Week of 09/23/19:

-  make predictions

- identifying and discussing the characters, settings, and plot in stories that we read

- prefixes -re, un, dis EX: redo, unacceptable, disobedient

- Writing traits: ideas

- Grammar: nouns

-inflectional endings -ed, -ing EX: passed, stamping

- commas in a series EX: I like eggs, bacon, and toast for breakfast!

Unit 2 Week 2:
Week of 09/30/19:

- Reading:

  • making predictions.

  • Focus on problems and solutions in a story.

  • plot of a story- the events that take place

- Vocabulary Strategies:

  • prefixes -re, un, dis

  • Suffixes –ly, ful

  • Inflectional endings -ed, -ing

- Grammar:

  • singular and plural nouns

  • Commas in a series

  • Writing a narrative and following the writing process: prewrite, draft, revise, edit, publish.

Unit 2 Week 3
Week of 10/07/19:

- Reading:

  • Genre: Narrative Nonfiction

    • Focus story in Reading Writing Workshop: "A Prairie Guard Dog"

    • Focus story in Literature Anthology: "Turtle, Turtle" 

  • making predictions.

  • Focus on problems and solutions in a story.

  • plot of a story- the events that take place

  • main topic and key details

- Phonics/Spelling:

  • soft c and soft g

    • place, barge, trace, ice, bulge, badge, space, range, mice, cage

- Vocabulary Strategies:

  • prefixes -re, un, dis

  • Suffixes –ly, ful

- Grammar:

  • capital letters-proper nouns

  • Commas in a series

  • Writing a narrative and following the writing process: prewrite, draft, revise, edit, publish

Reading: About

Weekly Reading Test

These tests are given every five or six days, following the Wonders program. Reading tests are a major test grade and increase in difficulty throughout the year.
